WhyNot Farm's pasture-raised approach means our animals spend their days outdoors, grazing on open grass and receiving consistent, attentive care. This method supports the natural behaviors and well-being of each breed, from the gentle Mini Donkeys to the hardy Red Devon cattle. By keeping our livestock on pasture, we avoid the confinement practices common in industrial farming. The result is healthier animals and, for our grass-fed cattle and goats, meat and fiber that reflect the quality of their upbringing. Our commitment to pasture-based care aligns with the same clean, sustainable philosophy that guides our hydroponic produce operation.

The North American Cashmere Goats at WhyNot Farm are raised as part of a diverse, mixed herd that roams the farm's pastures. These goats produce a fine, soft undercoat known as cashmere, which is harvested during the natural shedding season. Beyond their fiber, they contribute to the farm's ecological balance by browsing on brush and weeds, reducing the need for mechanical clearing. Their presence on the farm exemplifies our belief in raising animals in a way that respects their instincts and the land. Each goat receives the same daily attention and care that defines our family-oriented farming approach.

Our Red Devon Grass-Fed Cattle are a heritage breed well-suited to life on pasture. Known for their calm temperament and efficient foraging, Red Devons thrive on a grass-based diet without the need for grain finishing. This traditional approach yields beef that is lean, flavorful, and rich in nutrients, while also supporting soil health through rotational grazing practices. The cattle rotate through paddocks, allowing grass to recover and regenerate between grazings. This method mirrors the regenerative thinking we apply across the farm, from our livestock to our hydroponic greens, always aiming for harmony between production and the environment.
